1. Research your target market . See if there is a niche within that market to generate traffic to your site or offer.

2. Keyword research: start with a broad term like “diet” “lose weight” etc. Then drill or narrow it down to 3 to 5 word, keyword phrases like “lose weight for wedding” or “lose weight before wedding”

Here’s a goood place to start: Free Search Term Suggestion Tool at:
Keyword Discovery

Here is the link below as well if you’d like to cut and paste it into your browser window:

http://www.keyworddiscovery.com/search.html

This will help you get keyword ideas and see how many daily searches are being done on that keyword or keyword phrase.

4. Also research keywords using Google Keyword tool at:

Google Keyword Tool

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

5. Once you see some keyword phrases you can use and write articles around. Then type them into Google search with quotes “” the returning result (on the top right) will tell you how many pages have that quote – phase in them.

If you’re just starting out, I don’t recommend trying to go after results with more then 20k. Remember that sub-niches is were you’ll get faster search rankings, so even if you only find 4 or 5 phrases with say only 1000 or 2000 searches a month for that give keyword phrase it will be much easier to rank for, as apposed to a keyword with 24k searches a month and 300,000 competing pages.

Here is an example:
Say you have 10 articles with the keyword phase in your title and on topic with 2k searches a month. If each of those keyword phases have less then say 20k competing pages, your chances to rank on page 1 of Google are much more likely, so 10 article @ 2k searches a month will be easier for getting higher rankings and faster results = 2k x 10 = 20k searches.
You will have 10 articles hopefully ranking on page 1 or at the least page 2. Then if your trying to go after a high competition phase that will be much harder to rank for. Where you won’t see any results until you get the 5th or 10th search result pages. Now if you can get hundreds of one-way links back to a high competitive phrase, then yes you’ll have a better chance to rank for that keyword. But what we are looking to do here is get ranked fast and free.

Remember your 10 post that are getting 20k searches a month for all 10 of the targeted keywords. That is only 4k lower the then the one keyword with 24k. Plus your kW phase is very targeted.

This is of course is the long and free way of doing keyword research, but it works. At first just keep it simple. There is of course much more to this and great software that will do this for you, but I wanted to give you a free way of doing this that has proven to work. I will talk later about the software I reviewed or use. That works great for doing you research and is a huge time saver.

Ok – Once you have your 5 to 10 Keyword phases. Start writing your articles (5 or 6 to start with on each keyword phrase.) then post your best one to your blog or Hub and then submit next one to 3 article directories. That will leave you with 3 or 4 articles left to use with Web 2.0 sites.

I suggest these three to start with:

Here is a hubpage that list even more.

Top Ten Article Directories

By the way, all I did to get this above link is I did a Google search on “Top 10 article directories” and this web 2.0 site came up on the first page of Google. Which now leads us into talking about, posting your content (the remaining articles) to Web 2.0 sites.

Web 2.0 sites.

Here is a pretty good list to start with. You can of course expand or use others, but I suggest you start with these. The reason I suggest these web 2.0 sites, is because they rank very well in the search engines.

  • www.wordpress.com (this is the free one not the .org )

1st – Set up accounts with each of these sites.
2nd – post your next article on one
3rd – put a text (hyper) link back to your main blog post.
If the site doesn’t let you high-light  and insert a link with your keyword phase.
Below is an example of html code to use. All you need to do is change the URL & Keyword Phrase…

<a href=”http://mikealter.net/social-media-syndication/”>social media syndication</a>

Note: be sure and mix up your link text (this is good SEO. example instead of using just “social media syndication” each time, try using, say.. “How I use social media syndication” or “get traffic with social media syndication”

See the diagram below to see how to set up your web 2.0 and article linking.

Basic Link Building

In the next article and video post. I will go into marketing and keyword research.

You can not ignore the fact that content syndication through social media is very powerful if done correctly. This is how everyone from big fortune 500 companies to the everyday blogger or net-worker is get their message out. Now syndicating content is nothing new it has and still is used by news organizations, cable (TV) and radio. While This is still very effective and is not going away anytime soon, but using social channels and tools like facebook, Twitter or Digg. The matter in which content can spread around the world is lighting speed. sometimes within minutes. Now If your looking to get your information out to the masses or just try to target a select few, then social media is just a great medium and answer to see your message.

Social Media Syndication Using Synnd

Here is a good example and the reader’s digest version of how you can get your content syndicated using the any one or several of the web 2.0 or social sites. Say your in the Hat Biz or love hat’s, no matter. If you do a simple Google or yahoo search for the word hats the result bring back over 71,900,000 results or page that have the word hats in them. Ok that is crazy and a lot of web-pages. So how is your little “ol web hat store” going to compete with almost 72 millions other sites? Well like this – Write a article either on your website, blog or facebook page about “dressy hats for church” with a link  pointing back to your web hat store selling or talking about “dressy hats for church”. The search results at the time of this article for the keyword phrase “dressy hats for church” are only 60,400 and if you put the keyword phrase into quotes ” “  Then your really only competing with about 6300 results. Which is a lot easier to rank on the 1st page of Google or Yahoo then the word “Hats” and when you dig a bit deeper. You will see that this term is being searched for about 60 times a day, that pretty good and this is only one example.

More and more people are getting there information and researching for things or products that there interested in by typing whatever that might be into a search on the internet. Once you understand and know how to target that audience and give them what their looking for. You’ll be able to get your information, product or service in front of them and this works for just about anything. This is how powerful Social Media and Google really are and now with more and more people getting their information and news, by doing a search online. You can start to see how this can benefit you and your information.

Then you have the opportunity to go into any market, niche or topic and if the content you create is found to be either educational, enlightening, entertaining or interesting, then your content has the opportunity to create what some call “social Buzz” and once that information starts to circulate around the different social channels, in places like, but not limited to; Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Squdioo, Hubpages etc.) you’ll have a really good chance to attract not only that traffic from social media sites but through natural organic search engine “F.ree” traffic as well.
