Part Three: On Getting Guaranteed Web Traffic

Social bookmarking is a great way to get your content seen very quickly by others and pick up in the search engines. Now it is another thing all together to have your content bookmarked by others and ranked higher (Page One of Google) in search results.

You’re going to want to use social bookmarking and news site to help syndicate your content. Here are some basic guidelines to follow.

1st Try to only bookmark your best content, a good rule of thumb is if your content is either; educational, enlightening or entertaining. Then its chances of going viral are much more likely then, useless or spammy content that will only collect dust.

2nd Don’t spam. This is what I call “Short to gain, followed by long term Pain.” People sometime think if they bookmark all their content and blog post. It will get noticed. Yes that’s true it will get noticed and can quickly result in having you account closed or even worse your IP address banned. So a good rule to follow is only bookmark you best content and if your going to do lots of bookmarking. Then its best to look into services that provide bookmarking your content for you.

3rd Don’t just bookmark you own content (Me! Me! Me!) or post. When you come across something you like or you think will add value to the conversation. Then by all means bookmark it.

4th A good way to think, when it comes to using all the different social media, web 2.0, micro-blog and bookmarking sites, is to think of it like one big party or social gathering. Listen to what others are saying and read their content. Add to the conversation.

Here is a good example of content that works well in social news and bookmarking sites; If you just posted an article on “how to help other with [you fill in the blank]” or you just posted on your blog “10 ways to improve your health.”   Then yes by all means bookmark that content.

Bookmarking is very important, not only for driving free traffic to your site, but can get you higher search ranking, so  you definitely will want to utilize it as another tool, when it comes to promoting your websites, blogs or affiliate programs.

How to Use Social Bookmarking Sites

First you will need to register at different social bookmarking and news sites. (Go ahead any watch the Videos below on doing so.)

Next look at the different options for your bookmarking campaigns, meaning if you’re bookmarking your own content this will get you short term traffic and help to get your content indexed with the search engines rather quickly.

The other option is to have others bookmark your content for you. This is how social bookmarking and content syndication can lead to a flood gate of traffic and page one search engine listings.

Remember, if done properly, social bookmarking can be a very effective and powerful tool to get traffic to your website and promote your content.

The next several videos will give you a couple of options to look at.

Market and keyword Research

Here are the steps to do before choosing a Market or Niche to go into:

  • Need to research FIRST!
  • Where to research?

Even if you have a topic or idea you still want to do some research to find your target market and see if it’s marketable.
(Meaning is it a buyer’s market or just people looking for more information)

So for example if you selling TV’s don’t try and sell any type of  TV to anyone. Look for a specific TV and Target that keyword or keyword phrase that is being searched for, within that market. Say for example:                                                                               “Sony 46 w series lcd hdtv”  This keyword phase get’s about 50 searches a day.

  • How to Get In front of a targeted audience to drive traffic to your content?

Here’s how:  If you do a search on say “Network Marketing” There is over 9 million web pages competing for that exact term. Very competitive, but if you search for “Network Marketing in the south” there’s less the 3, but those 3 are probably not seeing any traffic or at less not enough to earn money with.

Remember this is not about hoping someone finds your post or offer. What really only matters is what people are typing in and searching for. Once you know what people are typing in and searching for.  You will want to get in front of them.

So the question is “Are you in front of them?”

If not here’s how.

  1. First you need to find out what people are searching for
  2. You need to create a website, blog or article around that search term
  3. You need to Syndicate that website, blog or article on that keyword phrase, through the different social media channels

Market research:

  • Amazon.com – Do a search in the magazine section first, see if there’s magazines published on that topic or niche that your interested in. (Book section works great too!)

Chances are pretty good if not a 100% guarantee, that if there is a magazine or book about the topic or item in your niche then there is a market to sell to.

  • http://pulse.ebay.com -  Is another place to see if something is sell-able.

For this example say you were into “toy trains” or “Model trains” You’ll first want to research to see if there is a market  at Amazon and eBay. Once you determine there is or isn’t one you can then move forward with that market or just keep looking for another one. There are literally thousands of niche and sub-niche markets.

Just remember, it can sometimes take a little time to brainstorm or get ideas, but once you get your head rapped around the idea of how to do market research. You will start to see markets left and right.

Keyword Research:

Now that we have determined there is a market in toy trains your next step is keyword research. Go ahead and start with keyword discovery to get some ideas on keywords and daily traffic. Then write down those keywords you like or the ones that stand out to you.

Then head over to the Google keyword tool and do the same. Once you have a list of some keywords your interested in.

Head over to Google and do a search with each keyword phrases. Here is an example:

Type in the word “toy trains” with the quotations in the search bar. (This will give you the correct amount of sites that have the phase “toy trains” in them.

Google comes back (at the time of this writing) with 453,000 sites, that’s a lot. What We are looking for is less then 20,000 with at least 1000 people searching a month for a keyword term.

(20,000 to 50,000 is ok), but you many want to wait until your blog is up and running with plenty of content and have a good amount of links pointing back to your site, so under 20k is a good place to start. This way you can rank higher and faster.

Now let’s dig a little deeper. Go back to your search using  Google keyword tool

Again type in toy trains and then scroll down and look for; “marx toy trains” Go ahead and copy and paste marx toy trains in quotes “” into Google search. as you can see there is only 2,580 sites (give or take) competing for this term. Now go to Amazon and eBay and see if these marx toy trains are selling and if so, then set up a  blog or Web 2.0 site and then write a review or article about marx toy trains and start selling them by setting up a account as a affiliate with Amazon and or eBay. Also head over to clickbank.com and paydotcom.com and see if there are any affiliate informational products being sold on trains or model trains etc.

Summary

  • Market and keyword research
  • Use keyword discovery and Google keyword tool; to find keyword phrases with traffic and low competition.
  • Next in part 3 I will go over social bookmarking and just how to set that up.

Introduction to creating content and getting free traffic to your blog or offer using social media syndication.
This is Part One. of several videos and articles, on getting free targeted traffic.

Get the Flash Player to see this content.

1. Research your target market. See if there is a niche within that market to generate traffic to your site or offer.

2. Keyword research: start with a broad term like “diet” “lose weight” etc. Then drill or narrow it down to 3 to 5 word, keyword phrases like “lose weight for wedding” or “lose weight before wedding”

Here’s a goood place to start: Free Search Term Suggestion Tool at:
Keyword Discovery

Here is the link below as well if you’d like to cut and paste it into your browser window:

http://www.keyworddiscovery.com/search.html

This will help you get keyword ideas and see how many daily searches are being done on that keyword or keyword phrase.

4. Also research keywords using Google Keyword tool at:

Google Keyword Tool

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

5. Once you see some keyword phrases you can use and write articles around. Then type them into Google search with quotes “” the returning result (on the top right) will tell you how many pages have that quote – phase in them.

If you’re just starting out, I don’t recommend trying to go after results with more then 20k. Remember that sub-niches is were you’ll get faster search rankings, so even if you only find 4 or 5 phrases with say only 1000 or 2000 searches a month for that give keyword phrase it will be much easier to rank for, as apposed to a keyword with 24k searches a month and 300,000 competing pages.

Here is an example:
Say you have 10 articles with the keyword phase in your title and on topic with 2k searches a month. If each of those keyword phases have less then say 20k competing pages, your chances to rank on page 1 of Google are much more likely, so 10 article @ 2k searches a month will be easier for getting higher rankings and faster results = 2k x 10 = 20k searches.
You will have 10 articles hopefully ranking on page 1 or at the least page 2. Then if your trying to go after a high competition phase that will be much harder to rank for. Where you won’t see any results until you get the 5th or 10th search result pages. Now if you can get hundreds of one-way links back to a high competitive phrase, then yes you’ll have a better chance to rank for that keyword. But what we are looking to do here is get ranked fast and free.

Remember your 10 post that are getting 20k searches a month for all 10 of the targeted keywords. That is only 4k lower the then the one keyword with 24k. Plus your kW phase is very targeted.

This is of course is the long and free way of doing keyword research, but it works. At first just keep it simple. There is of course much more to this and great software that will do this for you, but I wanted to give you a free way of doing this that has proven to work. I will talk later about the software I reviewed or use. That works great for doing you research and is a huge time saver.

Ok – Once you have your 5 to 10 Keyword phases. Start writing your articles (5 or 6 to start with on each keyword phrase.) then post your best one to your blog or Hub and then submit next one to 3 article directories. That will leave you with 3 or 4 articles left to use with Web 2.0 sites.

I suggest these three to start with:

Here is a hubpage that list even more.

Top Ten Article Directories

By the way, all I did to get this above link is I did a Google search on “Top 10 article directories” and this web 2.0 site came up on the first page of Google. Which now leads us into talking about, posting your content (the remaining articles) to Web 2.0 sites.

Web 2.0 sites.

Here is a pretty good list to start with. You can of course expand or use others, but I suggest you start with these. The reason I suggest these web 2.0 sites, is because they rank very well in the search engines.

  • www.wordpress.com (this is the free one not the .org )

1st – Set up accounts with each of these sites.
2nd – post your next article on one
3rd – put a text (hyper) link back to your main blog post.
If the site doesn’t let you high-light  and insert a link with your keyword phase.
Below is an example of html code to use. All you need to do is change the URL & Keyword Phrase…

<a href=”http://mikealter.net/social-media-syndication/”>social media syndication</a>

Note: be sure and mix up your link text (this is good SEO. example instead of using just “social media syndication” each time, try using, say.. “How I use social media syndication” or “get traffic with social media syndication”

See the diagram below to see how to set up your web 2.0 and article linking.

Basic Link Building

In the next article and video post. I will go into marketing and keyword research.
